Shadia – Law kont leya (1991)// شادية – لو كنت ليا

Shadia is one of those legendary Arabic singers that stood the test of time. And that is also the name of this tape ‘akwa min el zaman’, meaning ‘stronger than time’. She started acting and singing in the 50’s and was active untill the 80’s. This cassette is dated 1991 but the song itself is probably from an earlier era. This song is track 1 of the A-side of the cassette and is composed by an artist we covered in another post; Ammar el Shiriey. Love the sounds of the Mezmar (Egyptian wind-instrument) and the toms together. And this track is really classical Arabic in it’s composition as it is longer than other songs that came out later starting from the 80’s. It puts into perspective the other songs I post as it shows how the newer generation were refreshing their approach to music.
